ONE TO ONE DEESIDE COUNSELLING SERVICE

Established in 1998, One To One provides free confidential counselling on a one-to-one basis for the residents of Deeside in rural Aberdeenshire.  Our counselling staff are trained and experienced volunteers with a wide range of specialist fields, all willing to help their clients explore and work towards addressing their issues in many areas, such as:

  • Stress
  • Depression
  • Bereavement
  • Domestic or Relationship Problems
  • Substance Misuse
  • Any form of personal and emotional anxiety and distress

In 2007 we delivered over 600 hours of counselling and here is a sample of what some users had to say about the service:

"The counselling service has been excellent and should now be regarded as an essential service"

"Good service. Would be greatly missed if not available"

"1-2-1 WORKS"

All One To One staff are supported by professional supervisors, a mandatory requirement for all counsellors, in accordance with regulators of Counselling in the UK, such as The Confederation of Scottish Counselling Agencies (COSCA) and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

In order to provide the most enabling and empowering service, One To One offers a Person Centred Counselling approach to help people cope with various issues and challenges that they are facing.

Person-centered therapy helps people achieve personal growth and/or come to terms with a specific event or problem they are experiencing.  The resultant improvement in clients’ presenting issues in part also derives from the nature and depth of the relationship they can form with the counsellor.  Clients are positively encouraged to form their own conclusions and are not directed towards goals by the counsellor’s opinion or interpretation.  Therefore the client directs the counselling they receive by chosing the path and setting priorities within their counselling experience.  As such the person-centred approach is very much client-led.

Set in the heart of Royal Deeside, Our current base is at ‘Viewfield’, Charleston Road, Aboyne. Here we have two counselling suites offering a warm, homely ambiance.

Regular appointments can also be made with our counselling staff who are based within the Council’s Social Work offices in nearby Banchory and in some circumstances, i.e. for clients requiring disabled access, arrangements can be made for us to work within a number of local GP practices.  Appointment times are available both during the daytime and in the evening.

Appointments are initially arranged through the One to One Administrator or Co-ordinator, who, after conducting an initial interview with a potential client, will match clients to a counsellor.

Taking the first step to contact us or attend a counselling appointment often requires a great deal of courage; our staff are sensitive to this and try to respond to clients within 3 working days once they have left a message on the secure message service.

Anyone may make contact with us directly or may be referred by General Practitioners, Social Workers or Health Professionals. If you feel that One to One might be able to help you we can be contacted by telephoning 013398 86700.

We are proud that we can still offer our service free to all our clients, although, where clients can afford to do so, donations and gratuities are always welcome.

If you are interested in helping us to raise funds to maintain our service, please contact us through our office and leave your name or any ideas you have on how we can raise some much needed money.  Perhaps you could organise a sponsored event or concert, arrange a dinner dance or work/team building day, or perhaps you could influence some sponsorships.  Any and all ideas are welcomed.

If you are interested in volunteering at One to One, please see our Vacancies page for volunteering opportunities.

Thank You.
